Cork

Ireland · 3 nights

Cork, Ireland's largest and second-most populous county, is known for its stubbornness. While many people associate Cork's nickname as "the rebel county" with its role in Ireland's War of Independence in the twentieth century, the city has a much longer history of defying authority. Cork is the Republic of Ireland's second-largest city, after Dublin. It is located on Ireland's south coast and is connected to the sea via Cork Harbour and the Passage West channel. Cork and the surrounding coastline have a long history of seafaring and trading. The original city is effectively an island surrounded by two arms of the Lee River. St. Finbarr (Fin Barre) founded a monastery on a small marshy tract where the cathedral of the same name now stands in the 7th century. Despite Viking raids and later English occupation, the town survived and flourished over the centuries. Many of Cork's tourist attractions today pay homage to the city's long history, and you'll find it to be a vibrant, lively city with plenty to do. Bordeaux

France · 4 nights

No region in the world is more strongly linked with its wonderful vineyards than Bordeaux, maybe only rivalled by Champagne and Napa. Bordeaux, in the southwest of France, not far from the Bay of Biscay, has more vineyards than you could ever visit, yet even just touching the surface is rewarding. The city of Bordeaux, located near Garonne River, has been the region's wine center for decades, and the Golden Triangle area's beautiful structures reflect its storied history. Granted, smog, traffic congestion, and urban deterioration afflicted Bordeaux in the not-too-distant past. However, a visit to Bordeaux today will reveal a regenerated town, lovely 18th-century buildings, a pedestrian-friendly city centre, and a lively waterfront district with fashionable stores and cafés. There's also world-class art, theatre, and food options. Bordeaux is more than simply a city named after the renowned French wine. With so many historical landmarks and buildings, art galleries, and dozens of museums, a fresh new wine experience centre has been added to the mix.
