The Heart of Hanseatic Heritage

Bremen, officially known as the "Free Hanseatic City of Bremen" (Freie Hansestadt Bremen), is located on Germany's lower Weser River. This vibrant port is not only the capital city of the Land of Bremen, but it is also one of the country's largest seaports and centers of seaborne trade. The Land of Bremen also includes the port of Bremerhaven, which is located 60 kilometers north of Bremen and is where the River Weser empties into the North Sea. Both cities are popular starting points for sightseeing boat trips and river cruises. Bremen has long been an important cultural center, with a plethora of top attractions and fun things to do. The city's cultural calendar is highlighted by the Freimarkt, the country's largest funfair, which has been held here almost continuously since 1036. Seeing a concert by the International Youth Symphony Orchestra of Bremen is also enjoyable. Other memorable experiences for visitors and tourists include walking through Bremen's historic Old Town (Altstadt) – the city is very pedestrian-friendly – or strolling through the city's many beautiful parks and green spaces.
