Shades of Emerald

This island has a long and illustrious history. Cyprus' advantageous location has made it a treasured property for anyone who rose to prominence in the Eastern Mediterranean. People still flock to the island now, but it's for the beaches rather than power and glory. Cyprus boasts ancient sites, beautiful Byzantine churches, monasteries and museums abounding among its historic tourism attractions, so travellers interested in more than beach and sun are in for a treat. It's also a fantastic spot for trekking, with a diverse range of flora and fauna. The best part is that it's so tiny that you can easily base yourself in one town and go on day trips for sightseeing.
