Twin City Vibes
Get a quick look at your holiday experience
The vitality of New York City, the city that allegedly never sleeps, is unrivalled. New York holidays are jam-packed with activities, whether you're here for the art and culture or the bar and restaurant scene. In New York, there's always something going on. From sunrise to dusk, yellow cabs zip between the city's skyscrapers, and boats navigate the harbour under the watchful stare of the Statue of Liberty. There are numerous museums, galleries, and stores to visit during the day, while the city pulses to the beat of cocktail shakers and live music at night. Great New York holidays are whirlwinds, but they're unforgettable.
On the Dominican Republic's eastern coast, Punta Cana is a classic Caribbean getaway, complete with white-sand beaches and swaying coconut palms. No other resort in the Dominican Republic can compare to the sun-drenched elegance of Punta Cana holidays. Resorts line some of the world's best beaches, which run for 20 miles along the coast, interrupted only by the occasional lagoon or beachside café. After midnight, the downtown district comes alive with bars, and daytime activities include snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, and zip-lining.

Take a cruise to the Statue of Liberty
Various names know Lady Liberty: America's Great Lady, Mother of Exiles. A glance inside any New York City gift shop reveals the Statue of Liberty's sway on the city's symbol. From Battery Park, you can make out the form of the statue. If you respect your eyesight, taking a boat out to Liberty Island and seeing Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi's copper whopper is the most incredible experience.
The colossal statue appears to be in mid-stride when viewed up close. The statue's symbolic meaning, including the chains and shackles flung aside by feet, is explained in-depth in audio guides. Remember that if you wish to climb the 377 steps from the main lobby to the crown platform, you must make a reservation ahead of time. How about a somewhat more thrilling perspective of the statue in the summer? Take a ride on The Beast while holding on to your hat.
Spend the morning with the greats of American art
Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, sculptor and art collector, is responsible for New York's treasure trove of American art. In the 1930s, European art was trendy, and Whitney was frustrated by the lack of recognition given to American painters. As a result, she established her museum. To this day, the Whitney Museum of American Art champions American artists. See works by Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Edward Hopper and explore exhibits of paintings, sculptures, drawings, videos, photography, and new media to learn more about up-and-coming American artists.
As the locals refer to it, the Whitney is located at one end of New York's green urban rail path, the High Line. After your artistic adventure, why not stroll over the urban-garden walkway?
EXPLORE YOUR ALL-INCLUSIVE PUNTA CANA RESORT
It's a travel day, so don't pressure yourself by planning activities or sticking to a schedule. Instead, tour the grounds of your resort, get a cocktail, relax by the pool, sleep in a hammock, or hit the beach. Staying at this beautiful Vista Sol Punta Cana Beach Resort & Spa allows you to participate in sunset beach yoga, a guided rum tasting, a pole dancing session in the pool, or a silent disco.
HAVE FUN ON BAVARO BEACH
One of the most excellent beaches in Punta Cana is Bavaro Beach (Playa Bávaro), noted for its beauty and is one of the longest white sand beaches in the Caribbean at 30 miles. This, in my opinion, should be on any Dominican Republic itinerary, and no trip to Punta Cana would be complete without at least a few hours spent here. The Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort is located directly on Bavaro Beach, so you have to put on a swimsuit and go over when you're ready. Get up early if you don't mind waking up early to see a lovely sunrise. Watching the palm trees' silhouettes turn vivid with hues while the waves softly lap up against the shore is a magnificent experience.
PUNTA CANA DAY TRIP TO INDIGENOUS EYES ECOLOGICAL RESERVE
There are many memorable day trips from Punta Cana, but Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve (Reserva Ecológica Ojos Indigenas) should be on your list. It's a beautiful area to discover the Punta Cana environment. This 1,500-acre private reserve features fauna such as birds and turtles and a network of educational and connecting paths that lead to 12 freshwater lagoons, some of which are swimmable, including Guamá Lagoon, which is the deepest at 26 feet. There's also a diving platform here!
Due to their distinctive shape, the Indigenous Tano Indians were thought to have named these lagoons "eyes" or "Ojos." Call a taxi or take a guided trip to see the reserve on your own.
GO HIKING IN PUNTA CANA
Hiking in the Dominican Republic may be a lot of fun. While I've already discussed visiting nearby Punta Cana sites like Los Haitises National Park and Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve, these aren't your only alternatives. Monta Redonda is a fun hike around an hour from Punta Cana. While this hike near Punta Cana requires a strenuous 800-foot climb, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of Cordillera Oriental (part of the Colombian Andes), the ocean, and lush vegetation. The trek also includes delightful swings and hammocks at the top, making for great photo opportunities.
DAY TRIP FROM PUNTA CANA TO SANTO DOMINGO
Depending on your mood, you can spend another day on Bavaro Beach, relax by the pool, or participate in one at the Vista Sol Punta Cana Beach Resort & Spa various classes. Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's capital, is only approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes away if you're looking for another Punta Cana day trip.
Exploring the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial) and witnessing the stunning architecture are just a few things you can do in Santo Domingo in just one day. You may go down José Reyes Street, which is excellent for vibrant images, and visit the ruins of institutions like the Hospital of St. Nicolas of Bari, the first hospital in the New World, and the Monasterio de San Francisco, the New World's oldest Franciscan monastery.
SWIM & SNORKEL IN THE CARIBBEAN SEA AND HIT THE SPA
You've been conducting day trips from Punta Cana for the past few days, so it's time to relax and appreciate the Caribbean beauty surrounding you. Spend the day at the beach, strolling along the shoreline, or simply relaxing in a lounge chair with a refreshing drink. Besides relaxing on the beach, I recommend arranging a spa treatment to unwind completely before heading home. The Spa at Vista Sol Punta Cana Beach Resort & Spa is a serene area with high ceilings, rope doors, organic light fixtures, plants, and walkways surrounded by water elements that transport you to another world.
RELAX BY THE POOL
It's the last day of your holiday in Punta Cana! Spend today relaxing and soaking up the calm of this bright palm tree-filled resort, whether your trip is later today or early tomorrow. If you're like me and can't sit still for lengthy periods, try SUP Yoga or Aqua Aerobics, or grab a drink and go to a pool party. Vista Sol Punta Cana Beach Resort & Spa pools have elevated platforms that allow you to stand in water up to your ankles. These are ideal for dancing or simply relaxing.
Departure back to the UK
It's time to say goodbye to the most thrilling twin-city holiday! On your final day, spend last-minute shopping and seeing what you haven't yet had time for. Fit in one last fantastic lunch or dinner in the town before travelling back to the UK.
Day 1
Take a stroll through Central Park
The classic aerial image of Central Park: a beautiful block of lush greenery stretching out into Manhattan, with an army of concrete structures hugging its edges so neatly that it appears an invisible force field shields the park. Most things to do in New York include a stroll through the world's most-filmed public park, featured in films such as Elf, Night at the Museum, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and many others. It's easy to lose a whole morning within its walls.
Take in the park's prehistoric bedrock, which dates back between 190 million and 1.1 billion years. Alice in Wonderland and Balto, the valiant Siberian husky, are among the charming sculptures on display. Visit the Strawberry Fields memorial to the Beatles' John Lennon and take in the view from Belvedere Castle. Find your tranquil nooks and crannies, and cast your gaze over Cleopatra's Needle.
