French Christmas Charm - Lille Winter Escape

Lille, the historic capital of Flanders, is a worthwhile diversion between Paris and Brussels (a mediaeval principality that encompassed part of northern France and Belgian and Dutch provinces). The city's remarkable Baroque architecture and hearty cuisine reflect the Flemish influence. Lilloise cuisine combines traditional Belgian meals with regional delicacies such as "waterzo" (cream sauce with vegetables) and "potjevleesch" (potted meat terrine). Wandering the cobblestone pedestrian lanes of Vieux Lille (the old town), stopping at charming cafés, and finding the cultural sites are among the most fun things to do when visiting Lille. A world-class fine arts museum, an avant-garde cathedral, and Charles de Gaulle's birthplace are among the attractions. Lille is a bustling urban holiday destination with no pretences, exciting sights, a pleasant city centre, and a welcoming attitude.
