Discover the Charm of Larnaca – Cyprus Coastal Gem

The Church of Saint Lazarus, Hala Sultan Tekke, Kamares Aqueduct, and Larnaca Castle are all located in Larnaca, which is known for its palm-tree seafront, also known as Foinikoudes. It was built on the ruins of ancient Citium, where Stoic philosopher Zeno was born. Larnaca is one of Cyprus' most popular seaside resorts. A squat fort overlooks the beach, which is backed by a seafront promenade lined with swaying palm trees. The beautiful Agios Lazaros (Church of St. Lazarus) and an atmospheric and crumbling Turkish quarter, where Larnaca's famous ceramic artisans have set up shop, are just a few steps inland in the compact old town. Larnaca is a laid-back town with a distinct personality that distinguishes it from the more bustling cities of Paphos and Limassol. It's also in a great location for excursions south along the coast to some of the island's best beaches and inland to the Maheras forest region's quaint villages and attractions. After Lazarus rose from the dead, local legend has it that he stayed in Larnaca (then known as Kition) for another 30 years and was ordained as Bishop of Kition. The serenely beautiful Hala Sultan Tekke is number one on the list of things to do for those seeking some nature just outside of Larnaca city. The Archaeological Museum in Larnaca houses a collection of finds from all over the region, dating from the Neolithic to the Roman periods. This Ottoman-era fort, built in 1625 on the edge of Larnaca's seaside promenade, served as the Ottomans' main line of defense for the city. The old Turkish Quarter (also known as Skala) begins at Larnaca Fort and rambles south in a jumble of narrow lanes, making it Larnaca's most interesting district to explore.
