Admire the Monte Garden
The Monte Gardens are a stunning showcase of the island of Madeira's tropical vegetation. It is home to over 100,000 distinct plant species and water features teeming with koi fish.
Cable car ride
The Funchal cable cars take about 15 minutes to get you from street level to the Monte Gardens. Once you've arrived at the gardens, there's plenty of walking, but the cable cars will provide you with a view of Funchal that you will need help getting from ground level.
Shopping on an Island
You'll want to remember your day excursion with a few gifts, and shopping in Madeira doesn't have to mean buying typical tourist items. If you went to the Old Town for lunch, you're already in the ideal spot to pick up some cultural pieces to take home with you. If not, it should be easy to locate them. Take it slowly and take pictures while browsing the local shops.
A Walk Along the Beach
Another idea is to go for a walk along the coast. Numerous pop-up businesses provide snacks and souvenirs, allowing you to enjoy yourself while taking a stroll by the water.
Go to the Casino
The walk to the Casino typically takes between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on where you are in town. The heat should have subsided by now, making walking more enjoyable. You'll likely pass the CR7 museum dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo on your way to the Casino.
